In a significant technical meeting organized by the Pan American Taekwondo Union (PATU), led by its president, Juan Manuel Lopez, crucial steps were outlined for the road to the U-22 Pan American Games, scheduled for 2025 in Asuncion, Paraguay. This meeting, marked by the participation of more than 50 representatives of the region's national federations, specifically addressed the qualification system that will be used for this prestigious sporting event.
With an eye on the competition's horizon, PATU has established a classification system based on a rigorous ranking. This ranking, which will start from scratch this July, will be inaugurated at the first scheduled event in Querétaro, Mexico
The qualification will be available in the modalities of Kyorugi and Poomsae. For Poomsae, the sum of points in the freestyle pair division, as well as in the recognized men's and women's individual categories, will determine who will qualify for the U-22 Pan American Games.
Subsequent events, to be held in September in Peru, October in Cuba, March 2025 in Costa Rica and April 2025 in Puerto Rico, will be crucial stages in the qualification process. To ensure their participation in the Games, competitors must attend at least four of the five aforementioned events, demonstrating their consistency and ability throughout this demanding series of competitions.
Juan Manuel Lopez, PATU President, expressed his satisfaction with the success of the technical meeting, highlighting the commitment of those representing the national federations of the region. In the words of President Lopez: "We invite all the talented athletes of the region to participate in this exciting qualification process. We are confident that these events will not only be a platform to highlight emerging talent, but also a celebration of the competitive spirit and integral growth that distinguish our region."
With the roadmap clearly defined, the young Pan American taekwondo talents are preparing to face the challenge of qualifying for the U-22 Pan American Games. With each event, they move one step closer to realizing their dream of representing their countries in this prestigious continental event.
