The president of the Pan American Taekwondo Union (PATU), Juan Manuel Lopez, held a key meeting with the directors of Kukkiwon, Jeongsu Kim, Kug Hwan Kim and Jun Sik Kim, to discuss topics of relevance for the development of Taekwondo in the American continent. During the meeting, which stood out for its focus on future planning, several important objectives were outlined that will seek to strengthen cooperation between Kukkiwon, PATU and the national federations of the region.
One of the main topics was the planning of the second edition of the Kukkiwon Cup, to be held in 2025. This announcement comes after the success of the first edition held recently in Lima, Peru, which had an outstanding participation of athletes from all over the continent. This competition seeks to consolidate itself as an annual event of international relevance, promoting both the sport and the values of Taekwondo in the region.
In addition, a specialized seminar for instructors was planned, which will offer coaches the opportunity to update their knowledge and techniques according to the highest standards of Kukkiwon. This seminar will be part of a joint effort to improve the quality of Taekwondo teaching in the region and is expected to contribute to the professionalization of coaches.
Another key point was the proposal to open Kukkiwon offices in several countries in the contient. The opening of these offices will facilitate more direct communication between the national federations, Kukkiwon and PATU. This effort aims to provide more opportunities for the Pan American Taekwondo family, fostering a structure that will promote the growth of the sport at all levels.
PATU President Juan Manuel Lopez expressed his enthusiasm for the meeting held:
“We are committed to working together with Kukkiwon to provide greater opportunities for our athletes, coaches and federations. The Kukkiwon Cup, the seminars for instructors and the opening of new offices in the region are important steps to strengthen our sport and bring the Taekwondo community in the American continent closer together. We will continue to work as a team so that Taekwondo continues its expansion, and we can raise the level of our competitors and coaches worldwide.”
This meeting between PATU and Kukkiwon represents a significant advance in international cooperation and reflects the commitment of both institutions to foster the development of Taekwondo throughout the continent.
